THIS IS NOT A JOKE!!!! I have probably never been happier with the Fox Broadcasting network in my life.
As a part of the networks 25th Anniversary celebration this spring, the network will revive the groundbreaking 1990’s sketch comedy In Living Color as a 2 episode special with a new cast, with the option of a series pickup. If the 2 episodes go well, the show could be a regular series on the network’s schedule next fall!
Keenan Ivory Wayans will come back as executive producer for this reboot, even though he quit the show after the originals third season due to creative conflicts with the network executives.
If you don’t know, or have never seen In Living Color, I feel really sorry for you. This sketch comedy show broke barriers in the 1990’s by having predominately black comedians, breaking racial stereotypes on-air, and introducing hip-hop and dancing to network television. In Living Color helped launch the careers of such A-list stars like Jim Carrey, Oscar Award winner Jamie Foxx, David Alan Grier, Shawn, Marlon and Damon Wayans, and Jennifer Lopez, who was apart of the dance group The Fly Girls.
In Living Color was edgy for 1990 with the material that actually got to air. 20 years have passed and the rules have changed a lot on what can be shown and said on television, even broadcast television. Keenan Ivory Wayans has the perfect opportunity to push the comedy barriers with this new cast and cater to a new generation. If all plays out as I hope, In Living Color will be a weekly series, again, on Fox next fall.
