Two-time Emmy Award winner Megan Mullally (Will & Grace) joins the Fox comedy Breaking In as a series regular this season. According to insiders close to the show, executives of Breaking In pulled out all the stops to make this deal happen so Mullally could join the cast full-time when the show returns to the Fox line-up at mid-season. Mullally will play the new boss of the high-tech security firm Contra Security, taking the job from Oz (Breaking In star Christian Slater).
This season, Breaking In will go through a major creative overhaul that will see the show transition from a mission-of-the-week type premise that was seen throughout its first season run – which consisted of 7 episodes, to a more office based comedy.
This shows huge strides for Breaking In that such a high-profile star is joining the cast. The show (which was cancelled twice), once before it even aired, then cancelled again after the Fox upfronts on May 10th, 2011, then to be picked up for a 13 episode run on August 25th, 2011. Fox Entertainment president Kevin Reilly stated that “We are looking forward to bringing it back for a second season and continuing our relationship with this incredibly talented cast and these fantastic creators — Adam Goldberg and Seth Gordon. We can’t wait to see where they take these characters next year.”
Breaking In is expected to be apart of Fox’s 2 hour comedy block this spring that consist of New Girl, Raising Hope, and the yet to premiere I Hate My Teenage Daughter.
As part of the deal, Mullally will be able to star in Breaking In, as well as continue her co-starring role on Adult Swim’s Children’s Hospital, as well as guest spots on NBC’s Parks and Recreation and ABC’s Happy Endings.
I wasnt a huge fan of Breaking In when it premiered in April, but if Megan Mullally is joining the cast – who starred in one of my favorite sitcoms ever, Will & Grace, and makes guest appearance on two of my current favorite comedies Parks and Recreation and Happy Endings, im definitely willing to give this show another chance when the second season premieres.
Breaking In stars Christian Slater, Bret Harrison, Odette Annable, Alphonso McAuley, Trevor Moore, and Micheal Rosenbaum.
