Radio Personality Howard Stern is the new judge on NBC’s “America’s Got Talent”

After weeks of speculation, radio personality Howard Stern has officially been named the new co-host of NBC’s summer talent competition America’s Got Talent.

Paul Teledgy, President of Alternative and Late Night Programming made the announcement this morning that the shock jock will join the reality series this summer. Teledgy believes that Stern’s “thrilling dynamic” will be a great aspect for the competition series as he comments on various acts from around the country.

Stern’s new gig isn’t being welcomed by everyone, however. The Parents Television Council, who is responsible for promoting and educating parents about appropriate television content from children is outraged by this announcement. The PTC is claiming Stern joining the show released a statement to TMZ:

“This is an act of desperation for a flailing network. Primetime TV is no place for Howard Stern, who is synonymous with shock, profanity and obscenity.  “The once-proud broadcast network has lost its way and has made it clear it holds no concern whatsoever for children and families.”

While I don’t think this was an act of desperation on the part of NBC, I think that they could have found a better host. America’s Got Talent is the summers top show. Families do watch together, not to mention young kids are eligible to audition and perform on the show. Howard Stern is the last person that should be on a family oriented show where his job is to judge and critique young children.

Former America’s Got Talent judge Piers Morgan, who Stern will be stepping in for, thinks hiring Stern is a great idea. Morgan thinks Stern will be “shocking, dangerous, outrageous, and brilliant.” One person who may not too thrilled with Stern joining AGT, host Nick Cannon. Stern went on a rant about Cannon back in June, saying he doesn’t really care for the way Cannon speaks.

Here is a clip of Stern’s rant against Cannon:

Now both Cannon and Stern will be forced to work together. If Stern was serious about his rant, it will be interesting to see how they both interact with each other.

America’s Got Talent wont interfere with Stern’s SiriusXM radio, which is based out of New York City. America’s Got Talent will shift production from Los Angeles to New York City to accommodate Stern’s radio job.

America’s Got Talent will return for its 7th season this summer on NBC.
