“Goodfellas” TV series being developed by AMC

Another 1960’s styled drama may be coming to TV to join Mad Men at AMC very soon.

AMC has announced that its current development slate includes a remake of one of the greatest dramatic movies of all time, Goodfellas. If Goodfellas goes into production at AMC, it will be extremely similar to the movie, creatively at least. The writer of the original movie Nicholas Pileggi, who also wrote the book “Wiseguy” – in which the movie Goodfellas was based on –  will be on board to write the script for the new series. Pileggi will pen the script with Jorge Zamacona, while the films original producer Irwin Winkler will serve as producer of the series.

Goodfellas chronicles the rise and fall of the Lucchese crime family from 1955-1980. Goodfellas, starring Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci, and Ray Liotta was nominated for 6 Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. Pesci won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his role as Tommy DeVito in the film.

Goodfellas will easily fit into the AMC family of gripping, creative, and critically acclaimed dramas at the cable network which include the impressive Mad Men, Breaking Bad, and The Killing.
