Season 4 of TNT’s gritty LAPD drama Southland hasn’t even ended yet, but talks of a fifth season are right around the corner.
This ensemble cop drama starring Micheal Cuditz, Regina King, Shawn Hatosy, Ben McKenzie, and special guest star this season Lucy Liu, is in hot pursuit of getting a fifth season renewal from TNT.
Southland has always been a critically acclaimed show with the critics, but throughout its run, its had difficulty finding an audience. This problem has led the show to be questioned for renewal several times. During its fourth season, Southland is averaging 3 million viewers in its Tuesday, 10p.m. timeslot – up in total viewers and key demos compared to season 3. This Tuesdays episode won its timeslot against USA’s White Collar, a first for Southland.
Even though an official announcement of a fifth season wont come until after the season finale on March 20th, TNT head honchos Michael Wright and Steve Koonin are waiting for all the numbers to come in (final overall season ratings) to make that decision.

When Southland premiered on NBC back in 2009 with a seven episode order, nobody would have expected that this series would be edging toward a fifth season after the drama’s quick cancellation on the network, before TNT rescued the show.
If Southland does snag a fifth season, it proves that good quality shows (even if they aren’t ratings blockbusters) still have a place on TV, somewhere.
Watch Southland, Tuesdays at 10p.m. on TNT.
If TNT is wise they will renew SouthLand for a 5th season. I’ll have no interest in watching their channel if they don’t. Canceling SouthLand would prove that TNT does not know Drama!
I 100% agree with you! Southland is one of the best shows TNT has
