“Smash” sings it way to a second season

Get ready for more Debra Messing and Marilyn Monroe. NBC has officially renewed freshman drama Smash for a second season.

This isn’t a very surprising move since Smash is the biggest hit NBC has had all season. Due to the heavy promotion the network put behind the show leading up to the premiere, as well as being having the best lead-in on the network with The Voice, this musical comedy has sung its way into the hearts of viewers enough to keep it going into the 2012-2023 season. Smash is currently NBC’s highest rated drama in the 18-49 demo (2.6) and one of the top shows in total viewers, averaging 7-8 million viewers a week.

Smash is the second series that NBC has officially picked up for a second season, Grimm being the first. Will Awake be next?
