Deadline Hollywood reports that pop singer Britney Spears is closing in on a deal to take over one of the vacant judging positions on Fox’s The X-Factor.
Rumors have been swirling for months about who will be filling in on The X-Factor this fall after Simon Cowell fired Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul after the first season of the show. According to Cowell, they failed to resonate with the audience, and didn’t live up to his expectations.
Cowell has stated that he is looking for “star power” for the second season of The X-Factor. If Britney Spears joins the show, he would have successfully found his star.
Spears’ name has been just one of the people on the long list of celebrities that Cowell has been trying to snag for The X-Factor, which also included at one point Mariah Carey, Rihanna, the late Whitney Houston, and Janet Jackson. However, none of those ladies has made it this far into the negotiations of their salary.
If Spears joins X-Factor, she’s rumored to make close to $15 million for one season. That number exceeds that Jennifer Lopez’s salary of $12 million per season on American Idol.
An official announcement of Spears, the second judging position, and the new host probably won’t be announced until Fox’s upfront presentation in mid-May. Until then, the speculation continues.
