Emmy Talk with JWalk: Possible Supporting Actor in a Drama Series Nominees

Predicting the Actor categories are going to be a tough one this year. As with the Lead Actor category, Supporting Actor has the chance to be quite interesting since four actors from last years race, Joseph Fiennes (The Handmaid’s Tale), Matt Smith (The Crown), Mandy Patinkin (Homeland), and David Harbour (Stranger Things), aren’t in contention this year.

Expect to see a lot of Game of Thrones here. HBO will be pushing Thrones hard this year. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau will surely be back, as well as Kit Harrington who was snubbed last year after being submitted in the Lead Actor category. I can’t imagine HBO makes that mistake again, so at this point I’m putting him in Supporting until otherwise announced.

Peter Dinklage won last year and may possibly win his fourth Emmy this year for his role as Tyrion Lannister. Fun fact: Peter Dinklage has been nominated in this category seven times, each season of Game of Thrones, making him the actor with the most nominations ever in this category.

My early predictions for Supporting Actor in a Drama Series:

  • Peter Dinklage – Game of Thrones
  • Nikolaj Coster-Waldau – Game of Thrones
  • Kit Harrington – Game of Thrones
  • Bobby Carnivale – Homecoming
  • Johnatha Banks – Better Call Saul
  • Kiernan Culkin – Succession
  • Brian Cox – Succession
  • Tobias Menzies – The Crown
  • Shea Whigham – Homecoming

Are any of these drama actors on your Emmys radar? Did I forget any?

2019 Emmy nominations will be announced Tuesday, July 16th, get ready for a lot of coverage leading to the final day as potential nominees heat up or cool off.
