Emmy Talk with JWalk: “The Crown” won’t complete in this year’s race

Netflix’s Emmy favorite The Crown will not be participating in the Emmy race this year, according to the awards site “Gold Derby,” who broke the news late Thursday night.

According to Netflix, the shows production won’t be completed for streaming by the Academy’s May 31st deadline due to the shows extensive production design. There has not been an announcement on when the third cycle will debut on Netflix.

Recent Oscar winner Olivia Colman is set to join the cast as Queen Elizabeth II, taking over the role from Claire Foy, 2018’s Best Drama Actress winner. Colman was sure to be a frontrunner in the the 2019 race. This is surely going to change my predictions for Outstanding Lead Actress, Supporting Actress, and Drama Series.

2019 Emmy nominations will be announced Tuesday, July 16th, get ready for a lot of coverage leading to the final day as potential nominees heat up or cool off.
