ABC made a final round of renewals, including a drama series pickup from NBC.
Emergence starring Allison Tolman (Good Girls, Fargo) was originally slated for an NBC launch until it missed out on a slot on the list of recently picked up series. Produced by ABC Studios, ABC saw a perfect opportunity to pick up this drama series with a strong female lead for the female-skewing network. Emergence is a character-driven thriller who takes in a young child she finds at a mysterious accident site only to find a the child has no memory of the accident. After further investigation, its learned the child is at the center of the mystery that nobody expected.
Other recent pickups at ABC include the co-produced Hank Steinberg/50 Cent legal drama For Life, romantic one-hour comedy The Baker and the Beauty and multi-camera comedy United We Fall. Cobie Smulders will star a the yet-to-be-titled drama series (formerly known as Stumptown), and black-ish spinoff mixed-ish will join ABC’s new series offerings.
