NBC has finalized the renewal of Tuesday night behemoth This Is Us, and it’s a massive renewal.
After striking a deal with Disney-owned 20th Century Fox Television, the studio responsible for producing This Is Us, the family drama is set to return for the next three seasons, its sixth, and what’s likely to be its final season. Continuing the pattern of producing 18-episodes per season, if This Is Us does indeed end in 2022, it would have produced 108 episodes putting it in that lucrative syndication window for the studio.
This Is Us producer Dan Fogelman recently signed a massive five-year, nine-figure overall deal with 20th Century Fox, and mention that the end of season three was his envisioned “midpoint” of the series, leading to speculation that the mega-hit could conclude with its sixth season. While a conclusion date isn’t official, NBC would hope to this Tuesday night tentpole on the schedule as long as possible.
With its pickup finally official, This Is Us joins fellow NBC scripted series Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, Chicago PD, New Amsterdam, Law & Order: SVU, Superstore, and The Good Place returning to NBC this fall. This Is Us will stay in its long-time Tuesday 9p.m. home.
