Fox has announced that season six of Empire will be its last.

The announcement to end the musical drama comes as Fox announced their fall 2019 schedule. The announcement comes with Empire moving to a new night and time, Tuesday at 9p.m. This will be the first season the show has moved from its Wednesday 8p.m. home. For its final season, Empire is set to go against NBC’s ratings juggernaut This Is Us. The final season will consist of 20 episodes, up from 18 last season, with its series finale being the magic 100th episode.

The announcement to end Empire isn’t much of a surprising one, albeit unexpected. The show its the ratings champ it once was, and this spring the show was at the center of the controversy Jussie Smollett, leading to his removal from the series.

Even though ratings has suffered this season, Empire still ranks as Fox’s second-highest-rated series behind 9-1-1.
