Nominations are in for the 26th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards! Often, but not always, a strong precursor to the Oscars, the SAG Awards did shine some light on possible nominations on this years biggest night in movies.
Some quick takeaways from this yers nominations:
- Lupita Nyong’o finally got her first major nomination of the year for her role in Jordan Peele’s thriller Us, after missing out on a Golden Globe nomination on Monday.
- Robert DeNiro was snubbed yet again for his leading role in The Irishman, even though the Screen Actors Guild will be rewarding him with the Lifetime Achievement Award at this years show, presented to him by Leonardo DiCaprio.
- Jamie Foxx got a surprise nomination for his yet-to-be-released film Just Mercy.
- Parasite received a well-deserved film ensemble nomination!
- Scarlett Johnasson is a dual film nominee this year, being recognized for her leading role in Marriage Story and supporting role in Jojo Rabbit.
- Other dual nominees include Laura Dern (Marriage Story/Big Little Lies), Nicole Kidman (Bombshell/Big Little Lies), Charlize Theron and Margot Robbie (Bombshell), Catherine O’Hara (Schitts Creek), Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag), Rachel Brosnahan and Alex Borstein (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel)
- Olivia Colman received THREE nominations this year for her leading role in The Crown, and her ensemble nominations for The Crown and Fleabag)
- Succession was completely shut out.
- After two consecutive wins for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series, This Is Us was left out of the category, leaving Sterling K. Brown the only nominee (Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series) for the series.
